Important Titbits for JobHunters...

When sending Your resumes please send them as inline text ..DO NOT SEND AS WORD DOCUMENT ATTACHMENTS. Copy paste Your resume from word into the compose box. Also enable Rich Text format(.rtf) which is available in both hotmail and yahoo.

Your subject should indicate your Degree,Aggregate and the Skill set alone. When i send my resume the subject line will be
BE(CSE) - 76% - C/C++/VC++/COM/Linux.

When you send bulk emails, send them through ' BCC ' and the ' TO ' column can contain any id.. but its better to have one of your other ids in the 'TO' column ... i would have my rediffmail id in the TO column and other ids in the BCC column.

There is a limit for the number of emails you can send per day .. it comes to 150 - 200 ( i dont remember the exact no ) .. so do not try to send your resume to all the companies in one day .. your email id may be de-activated.

Your resume is the key and it gives the first impression about yourself to the employer. Avoid hackneyed phrases and stories and make it short and meaningful ... highlight your skill set, achievements and strengths.. include your Date of Birth without fail .. other than that none of your personal information is necessary.Keep updating ur resume periodically.

Try to add atleast one more project in your resume other than your Academic project, because when you go for interviews now you can always expect the Question, " What did u do all these 3 months after your college..?".. you can justify your side by saying that you learnt something new, which you have always wanted to learn in these 3 months and did a small project on that .. this would be an appropriate answer ... learning by yourself and something new shows that you have the right attitude and skill for a software engineer.

You should be strong in atleast one language ( say C/C++/VC++/Java/C#) and some domain ( say Networking / Systems programming / Graphics / Application design & developement / Databases) , of your own interest ... having the knowledge of an RDBMS is preferrable though not a must for systems programming.. when you say you are strong in something you should mean it.

Prepare yourself for some standard Questions like tell me something about urself, where do u want to see yourself in the next 5 years, where you want to work exactly, etc .. when you attend more interviews you will face many like these and before going for the next interview do some homework and sort out the answers for these Questions, always be prepared to face them.

You will be always asked to explain your projects... you have one chance of impressing them .. while explaining them you should give them an abstract about what your project does... how it is efficient... where it is deployed ... whats your part in the project ... what were the problems you faced in the project .. how did you overcome them..all these stuff.. never stop before you are asked to explain ur project.

You should improve your Communication skills .. this is mandatory .. guys with very good communiction skills have easily outperfomed guys with good knowledge, who could not present themselves.

There is a site called: www.indiasoftware.com... you can visit that and get information like phone numbers of companies directly...just go to the company section and....try the search mechanism available.... if you want specific cities only, then you can individually call up these companies and ask them to connect you to the HR then you can ask the HR if there are any tests and opportunities going on for freshers.do this regularly.

Also you can register at all good company websites... i.e. go the company websites and post/ register ur cv in the careers section there.Save all the reference numbers you will receive thereby from these companies and keep accessing these websites regularly for any updates. Also if you have succesfully posted your cv, if there are opportinities for freshers , you will get mail alerts from them in the email-account you registered there.

Register urself at all good placement sites... [like monster, naukri,.....etc, there are many more these are just examlpes ....] and post ur cvs there. Also register at these sites for any mail-alerts if they provide that feature.Keep visiting placement websites regularly for new information.

Register urself at yahoogroups available for IT jobs...just serach for such sites by typing something like "freshers jobs in IT" or "IT/ software jobs","freshers jobs"," Chennai jobs"...etc in google ...u will get many yahoogroups...u can reg at the good ones if u think. Then check these accounts regularly.

One imp thing: wherever u go for tests, make friendship with everyone, take their phone numbers and email ids and give them your phone numbers and email ids...request them to tell u if they know abt any job opportunities..and also u should tell them if u know abt jobs....this way...u all can help each other...also regularly keep in touch with them for any new opportunities that they may know....this is one of the best ways to know abt jobs.

Look for all possible sources of information like friends, newsgroups and Newspapers .. keeping in touch with friends especially those in the software industry is very important.Contact ur friends who are already working in ceratin comapnies..and give them ur cv [ hard copy as well send them a soft copy] and tell them to keep track of any opportunities in tehir companoies....or any employee referrals that they know..then aks them to fwd ur resume in their company if the opportinty comes...u can keep in touch with them reg for any job stuff they know.

There are a few things which you can't stop before and after getting a good job in the IT industry.. updating your skillset, resume and friends list...etc.

Keep improving urself and keep applying ... You can get ur dream job by hardwork and right approach...Never give up...try till u succeed..everyone has his time...just wait..god is watching and testing your patience..and you gotta win...:) All the very Best to you all :)
